- <p> DIED. HERBERT PHILBRICK, 78, infiltrator of the U.S. Communist
- Party for the FBI during the 1940s; in North Hampton, New Hampshire.
- Philbrick's best-selling 1952 autobiography, I Led 3 Lives,
- promptly adapted into a television series, chronicled his life
- as an advertising executive, a communist and an anticommunist
- snitch. In 1949 the government called him as a surprise witness
- at the New York conspiracy trial of 11 top communists. His testimony
- helped ensure their convictions.
